St Charles IL Real Estate Blog: Downtown A Happening Place To Be

I want to discuss how the evolution of downtown St. Charles IL has helped transform how potential home buyers now view the city.  No longer is St. Charles considered a place of cornfields, out in the middle of “no where.”  It was voted by Family Circle Magazine in 2011, as one of the 10 best towns in United States for families to live.  The St. Charles IL real estate market will show signs of growth, prosperity, and stabilization for years to come due to the following attractions, businesses, commerce, and one-of-a-kind historic downtown area.

Downtown St. Charles, Illinois Attractions

Restaurants:  If you are looking for more of a “trendy Chicago feel,”  then check out places  such as The Office, Isacco’s Kitchen, and Pizzeria Neo–not only are they “hip,” but they also offer a very creative  menu.   Feeling a little bored and need a little relaxation after a hard day at work?  They are all fabulous to go to when you are looking to relax and have a couple drinks after dinner also. For traditional Italian cuisine, downtown St. Charles has a lot of amazing options–ZaZa’s Trattoria, Francesca’s by the River,  Nuova Italia, and Salernos’ on the Fox.  Offering  great atmospheres, homemade Italian food, and daily specials, they certainly qualify for a pleasant way to end your day! If you are longing for a peaceful night by the river to share a glass of wine and a steak with friends, then check out and Rox City Grill.

If non-traditional food is more to your liking, then Wok N Fire fits the bill–serving different types of Pan Asian cuisine, a great sushi bar, and a slightly different dining experience that will make it extremely memorable.  If Indian food is what your searching for, then the Taste of Himalayas is the perfect spot to expand your horizons with tons of different entrees and appetizers.  For authentic Mexican food and delicious margaritas, then El Puente is for you.  If the perfect ending to your evening is ice cream, walk over to Kimmer’s Ice Cream in the heart of downtown St. Charles by the river–choose from gourmet homemade ice cream, sundaes, shakes, cakes, and pies. You will not be disappointed by any of the above dining experiences!

Entertainment:

Over the last years, the Arcada Theatre has been reinvented and brings weekly entertainment, such as comedy acts, plays, and famous musicians–some bring back great memories from days gone by. The Arcada has brought such high profile acts as Brett Michaels, Andrew Dice Clay, Shirley Maclaine, Kenny Rogers, The Righteous Brothers, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and coming this Christmas–Clay Aiken.  Another great option is the Steel Beam Theatre which offers high level entertainment without going into Chicago.

St. Charles is also known for their awesome annual festivals–which includes the  Scarecrow Fest, River Fest, St Patrick’s Day parade, the Fourth of July fireworks celebration and the Christmas Walk.

From May 24th- Aug 16th St. Charles host a musical series called Concert in the Park which brings a new musical act every Thursday night to St. Patrick’s Park.  Admission is free and pizza from Domino’s Pizza, sandwiches, and drinks are available to purchase–making it a wonderful night out for the whole family!

The Kane County Flea Market is a must for the antique hunters or buyers just looking for the “perfect” accessory to finish your room…It is open on the first weekend of the month at the Fair Grounds on Randall Road. You can find fabulous Christmas gifts for the “hardest to please” in your family…If you get ravenous after walking the fair grounds, you can cross the street and dine at the Colonial Cafe that offers everything you could want…If you eat their famous Colonial Kitchen Sink (HUGE ice cream creation), you get a bumper sticker for your car…

Shops:  St. Charles also offers a wide variety of boutiques, antique shops,  coffee shops, and small deli shops–  Townhouse Books, Antique Market I & III,  the Bull & Bear Tobacco Shop, Smitty’s on the Corner, Italian Bakery, the Jean’s & Cute Top Shop,  and the Blue Goose (for an incredible grocery shopping experience), and many other unique shops that add to the charm and character of St. Charles.

Bars: If night life is “your thing,” then St. Charles will not disappoint you.  After going to one of the great restaurants in the area, head out for “a night on the town.”  You can go sample different varieties of beers with live music included at the House Pub.  You can sit outside and drink at Pub 222 or go to the Filling Station that offers the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of a vintage gas station with collectible and antique car items. Enjoy drinking, music, and dancing at McNally’s–an eatery that offers authentic Irish food and drink. Enjoy sporting events, music, and a game of pool at the Beehive and Alley 64 or check out other local favorites such as the Thirsty Fox, Dawn’s Beach Hut, and Lil Jim’s Tavern.

The re-energized, scenic, and historic downtown has really been a boon to selling real estate in St. Charles IL.  Coupled with national recognized schools, award-winning parks and recreational areas, and the natural beauty of the Fox River, St. Charles is a fabulous place to live and others are recognizing it also…The downtown has original architectural buildings, eclectic restaurants, many types of entertainment and other interesting venues that combine to make this town “a hidden treasure!”  The parks are second to none with over 1,500 acres of parks that offer walking trails, running, biking, boating, fishing, golfing, tennis, swimming, and disc golf. Take a cruise down the River on an authentic paddle boat or treat the family to a round of miniature golf.  St. Charles has it all and invites you to partake of all it has to offer!  See you there!
