St. Charles Today

St. Charles is a vibrant community of more than 32,000 people located 35 miles west of Chicago.

While modern stores are all nearby, St. Charles has maintained its historic downtown area, earning it a Chicagoland “top 10″ attraction nod from the Chicago Tribune.  Many buildings in the downtown area date from the mid-nineteenth century.

St. Charles contains many cultural institutions, such as the Norris Cultural Center, Arcada Theatre, Steele Beam Theatre and the Pheasant Run Resort.  The St. Charles public library has been nationally recognized by the American Library Journal as a top public library, and St. Charles schools have been recognized as multi-year top performers by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Housing in St. Charles ranges from in-town bungalows and riverfront town homes to large country estates.  You’ll find that a wide mix of residents are drawn together by the local recreational and entertainment options.

Frequent commuter train service to surrounding suburbs or Chicago is available through stations in nearby Geneva or Elgin.
